Most likely you will spill some ink the first time you refill. Choose a work place that is safe, like a workbench. The ink will penetrate newspaper very quickly. To avoid staining the under surface, put tinfoil, waxed paper or plastic wrap as your first layer of protection. Then put some newspapers on top of this material.
If you are worried about getting ink on your hands, use rubber gloves or apply some hand lotion to your hands before you begin. The ink will wash off with Lava soap or a 50/50 solution of bleach and water. After the first time at refilling, most people do not get ink on their hands again.
If you are using our squeeze bottles with the needle tip, make sure you have installed the o'ring inside the needle cap. This will prevent ink from leaking around the threads of the bottle. .
Now, follow the instructions and be careful not to over fill. This is one of the root causes of the messes. Fill slowly, keeping the needle deep into the cartridge, unless otherwise instructed. Pull the needle out occasionally to let some air back into the ink bottle. When you see the first sign of ink welling up around the needle STOP, that's enough. If you are filling a sponge filled cartridge and not going through a small hole, watch the sponge. As soon as you can see some ink begin to show at the top of the sponge, STOP, that's enough.
Keep the tops on the ink bottles at all times, and don't put them close to where you are working, so they can't get knocked over.
Hope these ideas help you have a pleasant first experience refilling. It is a financially rewarding experience and it will make you smile when you don't have to purchase a new cartridge.

REFILLING AN INK JET CARTRIDGE FOR THE EPSON 3000

1.   Locate the hole in the center of the end of the cartridge. It is a small hole about 1/8" in diameter with a black rubber seal just below the surface of the cartridge. Stand the cartridge on end so the fill hole is pointing upward. If you have a clamp, it is handy to use to keep the cartridge standing upright.

2.    Pour the ink into a small cup and fill the syringe to the 60cc mark with ink. This is done before you attach the needle. Make sure you have no air or foam in the syringe. Next, find the small 1/2" long purple needle and insert it into the center of the black rubber seal on the cartridge. Hold the needle with your fingers, and feel for the dimple in the center of the rubber seal, then push the needle through the seal. If you use a longer needle don't go in more than 1/2", you may puncture the bag on the inside.

*BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO PUSH TOO HARD WITH THE NEEDLE UPON INSERTION. IF YOU PUNCTURE THE FOIL BAG INSIDE - IT WILL BE AN EXPERIENCE THAT YOU WILL NOT FORGET!

3.    Attach the syringe to the needle, keeping it inserted into the cartridge. Inject the 60 cc of ink into the cartridge. Detach the syringe from the needle, leaving the needle in the cartridge. A pair of needle nose pliers works great for this.

4.    Refill the syringe with 40 cc and reattach it to the needle. The cartridge holds 100 cc of ink, so this is the last syringe full of ink. After it has all been injected, keep the needle in the cartridge and pull back on the plunger to remove any trapped air that may be in the cartridge. When you pull back on the plunger, you should get a small amount of ink back into the syringe, about 2 to 5 cc. When you pull back on the plunger, also start removing the needle from the cartridge. Getting the excess air out of the cartridge is very important.
Caution... If your cartridge was not totally empty, you may have put too much ink in. This is not good and will lead to problems later. If you think you put too much in, the sides of the cartridge will seem expanded and you will be able to squeeze the bag by pressing on the sides. If this is the case, you can extract or remove some of the ink with the syringe until the expansion reduces.

5.    The cartridge is now refilled. It should not be leaking anywhere. External leakage means that the rubber seal is not holding or that the foil bag inside the cartridge has been damaged. Both are fatal. If it is not leaking, clean it off and set it aside. If it is leaking, you will need to get a new one or a different one that is not damaged.

6.    Clean the syringe and needle with warm water and prepare to fill the next color cartridge. Which color you start with makes no difference. Repeat the above procedure for each color. When all the cartridges are filled, reinstall them in the printer. Run a cleaning cycle and a test print to make sure everything is working properly.

It costs between $4 to $20 to refill the Epson 3000

depending on the quality of the ink used.

That's better than $62.00 for a new cartridge!

Be careful - some competing inks will ruin your print heads in a matter of seconds.

Always look for Epson compatible inks.
