A word about our legendary Industry Guru
Scott Fresner FastFilms Developer
Former screen printer - now inkjet guru.... |
| We love Scott Fresner - Industry booster and number one software salesman. By David Cran developer of SPS and the inventor of index separations.
I decided to add a page to the squaredot site to thank Scott for the page he recently added to Fast Films.com entitled "a word about our competitors". So many people including my friend Charlie Facini called to tell me about the things that Scott was saying about me that I decided to make a page to honor him, so here it is. see Scott's page at http://www.fastfilms.com/competition.html remember Scott Fresner hates competition..... Background Everyone in our industry knows that Scott Fresner has over 30 years in the Screen printing industry - he even tried running his own screen printing shop for a while. Scott Fresener was never able to keep his screen printing businesses going - they all failed leaving financial ruin behind. He is the author of "How to print shirts for fun and profit" although selling "how to" things to Screen printers is his most profitable enterprise these days, however judging by his recent "word about the competition" monologue he no longer includes "Fun" in his business - had to give that up for profit. According to the USSCREEN website run by Scott and Mike Fresener - Scott is the most highly decorated industry GURU and is single handily responsible for the state of our industry today. For this Charlie Facini and myself, David Cran ,would like to thank him from the bottom of our hearts. For 30 years Scott Fresner has nurtured the textile printing industry. It is in this rich environment that Charlie and I have found willing and grateful customers for our Screenprint Separator and Spot Process software. We go to trade shows and we get treated like heroes when the real hero is Scott Fresner. If Scott had just come out with Fast Films back in 1985 instead of sitting on all those incredible gems - Charlie and I would not be running software companies today. I personally would have been devastated to find out back in the late eighties that all my work on color reduction algorithms and stochastic square dots was already included in "Fast Films" the package that does everything including your taxes ( their programmer worked for the US government). Setting the record straight on the facts. just the facts ..... Now is the time for Charlie and I to fess up - OK neither Charlie nor myself have ever been awarded the prestigious "Parmelle" award, and I am not even a member of the SGIA. Charlie is a proud member however and is hoping for his first "Parmelle" award really soon. Both Charlie and I hate the term "simulated process" - the reason being that "process color" is a "simulation" to begin with and anytime you are simulating a simulation you will find yourself in really big trouble. I don't like "Halftones" , Charlie does - we can still sit at the same table without a food fight breaking out. Yes, I say "Friends don't let Friends use halftones" and I probably always will. A small percentage of our SPS profits are donated to half tone rehab clinics every year - we care. So Scott, you are welcome to use half tones as much as you like and Charlie says go ahead and call it "simulated process" if that is what sounds good to you. We don't want to hear that term associated with what we do. It appears that you are upset about the testimonials from unhappy Fast Films users on our site - I am sorry about this - maybe they didn't read the manual or watch your tape - I don't know - we just post what they say. If someone pays a thousand dollars for something and it does not perform as billed, you have got to expect them to ge a little hot under the collar. Your message did clear up one very puzzling aspect of my job, and that is why none of our customers ever phone me and complain that SPS does not work - we even have been able to offer a money back guarantee (we had to after the Fast Films demos went out ) Now, apparently great hordes of my users have been jamming your switch board every day asking for something better than a mere "export filter". Mike even posted once that people phone all day long asking for their money back after buying Screenprint Separator. I apologize for this great inconvenience, I would have thought they would have read the clearly printed phone number on the CD and phoned me, but hey that is the wild and crazy industry we are in - you never know how silly screen printers will be. If you like you can give those angry mobs my direct phone number - it's 206.760.9559 - I will take care of them - it's my responsibility. Now, Scott we all know that it must be a big shock to have some new young whipper snappers using Macintoshes and Adobe products clearly in violation of your 1994 decree that Corel and the PC are the standards of the t-shirt business, and then to have them become industry leaders in the separation software business by using "lies" - wow that's got to hurt! What is with screen printers today - they settle for an "expensive labeling program" like Screenprint Separator and then the industry turns around and awards these printers with 35 industry awards - what's up with that? Charlie Facini even managed to win awards with his "outdated Technology" - the "RGB de-compiler" - ok, so it was first used by Willy Wonka to make chocolates - Charlie seems to be putting it to great use now for color separations. Charlie and I must apologize for telling people that Fast Films uses the "color range" tool - silly us - we got this idea by running a separation with Fast Films and noticing a long string of "color range" commands in the action palette. Must be a programming error - better fix it in the next "Upgrade". In introducing new software to our failing industry, Charlie and I were only trying to help, and if you were nicer to us we would show you the results of our work. Then you could see what we have planned for the future, up close. This would make it easier to copy our stuff more accurately and your tech support would not be giving you those raging headaches that cause you to lash out at your competitors. Really we are two very nice dudes Charlie and I - and to prove it, we have decided to pay for a full course offering for you and Mike at http://angermgmt.com You must complete the course before the long Beach show - that is our only stipulation. Silly things Scott Fresner our lovable genius has said. 1/ " Index separations don't use spot color" 2/ "Everything works on the fast films demo." 3/ "Mr. Cran and Mr. Facini should run for public office." 4/ "RGB decompiling is just a big fancy word." 5/ "Fast Films does everything that Spot Process and Screenprint Separator do - plus you get these groovy edge effects." 6/ "Index separations are posterized and you can't get good resolution." 7/ "you can't use screenprint separator on a six color press." (did he see the 6 color manual press printing index images on black shirts at SGIA 2000? -Everyone else did.) 8/ "David Cran didn't invent "Index separations" - it was Al Gore back in '85" 9/"I have years of field experience - ok, so my shop went out of business - so what! Fast Films will win an award soon - just wait...." 10/ "David Cran shows off high end prints at shows but he does not tell anyone that they are all done in 14 colors " (the silly goose seems to have forgotten about my proofs with the color bars down the side- try covering up 14 color bars with one hand) 11/ "notice how I am not bashing the program - just the inventor." (???) 12/ "we do squaredots too!" Photoshop does the separations - index is index - you don't need software to do it - I know all about it- trust me - what could David Cran possibly know that I don't know..... (just wait till he copies my next manual...) 13/ "I do all the tech support myself and I have 30 years experience!" I am easy to get a hold of... except for when I am away at trade shows... (Well he has got me there - I have only 25Yrs experience - but I was running a screen printing shop - designing images - doing the separations and making my customers happy - instead of going to those fancy trade shows with fancy words.) 14/ "everything on the squaredot site is a lie!" (boy, if this is true David Cran is one of the biggest liars that ever walked the face of the earth- how does Mr. Cran sleep at night...) 15/ "Fast Films is not just a set of actions - its real software - really it is - we just hired a programer to hide things for security reasons- yeah that's it - security - we have an "8li" file... na na na naah.." 16/ Mike Fresner - the silly son -- "I have spoken to David Cran on the phone many times - sometimes he even phones up pretending to be someone else". ( you would think I would remember this.... besides I have the book "how to print t-shirts for fun and profit" - everything is in there - why would I need to fool Mike into giving away more of daddys secrets. Ok, Ok, Some times I pretend to be Charlie Facini....) 17/" SPS would not have sold so many copies if not for David Cran's constant "shilling" on our website." (Hey, I am banned remember...Is it for life? ) |
